Tammy works doing hair in both Richmond and Alexandria. She is fantasAc with color and highlights. Here in Alexandria she works out of her own hair studio. When you go in, it will be just you and her in the space: low Covid risk! Her space is relaxing: she offers chocolates and plays French music on the stereo. She’ll chat with you if you like, or if you’re the quiet type like me, she’ll just do her thing to get you the cut and color that will most compliment your features. Or help you dye your hair purple for an ironman. Visit them on the web at https://couleurhousesalon.com/
Some days you just need cupcakes and/or ice cream. Guaranteed after a challenging therapy session I will encourage you to go do something nice for yourself, maybe it’s a pedicure, maybe it’s a run, maybe it’s allowing yourself to have your favorite candy bar. Maybe you’ll want some frozen custard from The Dairy Godmother, just downstairs from my office, or maybe you’ll want a really moist and flavorful cupcake from Small Cakes Del Ray. Flavors change at both shops regularly. Watchout! Trying to keep up with the rotating flavors and try them all will get you fat. Been there, done that.

People have all different languages for processing emotions: some use words and tell stories or jokes, others write. Some people use art and paint or draw their feelings. I convey emotions and memories in metaphors which is really helpful with work actually. Leanne who owns Ewe Knit & Sew seems to use color as her emotional language. She has some fantastic yarns but look closely at the way she names them. How do you respond to the colors? Would you name them the same way she did? Can you see her memories and emotions in the yarn colors and other products she sells?

Dr. Haden was actually recommended to me by Stacey at the Neighborhood Pharmacy. I was so sick of other primary care pracAces wanAng me to come in for an appointment when all I needed was a refill of my meds. For a monthly fee you get almost instant access to your Doc via text, in person for office visits and even house calls as needed. Dr. Haden is friendly, down to earth, and takes his job seriously. He’ll talk with about issues you like you have a brain and share arAcles about health ma”ers as they apply to your issues. Visit them on the web at https://www.modernmobilemedicine.com/
The Neighborhood Pharmacy of Del Ray is a very personable local pharmacy where not only does the pharmacist know your name and medications but also your dog’s name and your doctor. Spock sometimes pulls me into the shop to get cookies from Pharmacist Stacey. Visit them on the web at http://www.delraypharmacy.com/
Pacers is my go-to running store and race organizer for a couple of reasons. First of all the staff are friendly and the location is convenient. They have a great trial/return policy with their shoes. I’m one of those annoying people who can try on every running shoe in the store and my feet feel something weird in EVERY shoe. Their policy lets me take a pair home and actually go for a proper run in them and if my toes goes numb or something, I can always take them back and go with a different pair. Their races are fantastic and safe. I know this because I sometimes work as race support crew. It can be a fun way to spend a weekend morning and feel athletic even if I don’t feel like racing. Lisa their race director is first and foremost super friendly with great character, but also very focused on safety. She makes sure that the courses are set and marked and patrolled and the police and security forces are working in a coordinated manner. I’ve done races with other companies before and they were not run with nearly the care and efficiency of the Pacers events. I’m going to try to help you Hind something motivating to get you active while you are in therapy. It might be running! And having a race to train for can be really helpful. George Washington Parkway Classic for the win!

I first met Kyle Gilliam at Olde Town School for Dogs and then he went out on his own to build his own dog training business. He is wonderful with dogs; Spock just loves him. We recently did a lesson in which Kyle taught Spock to stay on my stand-up paddle board; he had previously been launching himself into the water every 30 seconds to chase bubbles. I take Spock to daycare at Your Dog’s Best Friends whenever I have a full schedule and know I won’t be able to give him the exercise and socializaAon he needs. He LOVES it here, will drag me in the door and doesn’t even say “bye mom” before he is off to play with his friends for the day. Visit them on the web at http://www.yourdogsbestfriends.com/
